Prep Time: 15 minutes

Chill Time: 20 minutes

Total Time: 35 minutes

Servings: 4

Ingredients

  • 2 cups finely shredded purple cabbage
  • 1½ cups fresh or frozen blueberries
  • 4 cups cold water
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup (adjust to taste)
  • ½ teaspoon grated fresh ginger (optional)
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
  • 1 cup ice cubes

For Garnish

  • Fresh blueberries
  • Lemon slices
  • Fresh mint leaves
  • Ice cubes

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Ingredients

Wash the purple cabbage thoroughly and shred it into small pieces. Rinse the blueberries and juice the lemon.

Step 2: Blend

Add the shredded cabbage, blueberries, cold water, lemon juice, honey, ginger, and vanilla extract to a high-speed blender.

Blend on high for 1–2 minutes until completely smooth.

Step 3: Strain (Optional)

For a smoother beverage, pour the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth into a large pitcher. Press gently to extract as much liquid as possible.

If you prefer extra fiber, skip this step.

Step 4: Chill

Refrigerate the refresher for about 20 minutes until thoroughly chilled.

Step 5: Serve

Fill serving glasses with ice cubes. Pour the chilled refresher over the ice and garnish with fresh blueberries, lemon slices, and mint leaves.

Serve immediately while cold.

  • Grilled chicken
  • Turkey sandwiches
  • Vegetable wraps
  • Light pasta dishes
  • Brunch spreads
  • Picnic lunches

Tips for Success

  • Use fresh blueberries when they’re in season for the sweetest flavor.
  • Blend thoroughly for the brightest color.
  • Adjust the honey or maple syrup depending on the sweetness of the berries.
  • Add sparkling water just before serving for a fizzy refresher.
  • Freeze blueberries beforehand to make the drink even colder without watering it down.
  • Add fresh mint while blending for a cooling herbal flavor.
  • Chill the serving glasses before pouring for the best presentation.

Storage

Store the refresher in an airtight pitcher or bottle in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Shake or stir well before serving, as natural separation may occur.

This beverage is best enjoyed fresh and is not recommended for freezing, as the texture and flavor may change after thawing.

Recipe Variations

  • Replace blueberries with blackberries for a richer berry flavor.
  • Add cucumber for extra freshness.
  • Mix in fresh pineapple for natural sweetness.
  • Use lime juice instead of lemon for a citrus twist.
  • Stir in sparkling mineral water before serving for a bubbly version.
  • Blend with fresh basil or mint for an herb-infused refresher.
  • Add chia seeds after blending for extra texture and nutrition.
