Easy Air Fryer Hot Dogs

Prep Time: 2 minutes

Cook Time: 6–8 minutes

Total Time: 10 minutes

Difficulty: Easy

Servings: 4

Ingredients

  • 4 hot dogs
  • 4 hot dog buns
  • Cooking spray (optional)
  • Ketchup
  • Yellow mustard
  • Relish
  • Diced onions
  • Pickles
  • Shredded cheese (optional)
  • Chili (optional)

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat the Air Fryer

Preheat your air fryer to 390°F (200°C) for about 3 minutes. While preheating is optional for some air fryer models, it helps create evenly cooked hot dogs with lightly crisped skins.

Step 2: Prepare the Hot Dogs

Place the hot dogs in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Leave a little space between each hot dog so the hot air can circulate freely around them.

Step 3: Air Fry

Cook the hot dogs for 6 to 8 minutes at 390°F (200°C). Halfway through cooking, turn them over using tongs to ensure even browning.

Step 4: Toast the Buns

During the last 1 to 2 minutes of cooking, place the hot dog buns inside the air fryer alongside the hot dogs. Toast until they are warm and lightly crispy.

Step 5: Assemble

Carefully place each hot dog into a toasted bun. Add your favorite toppings such as ketchup, mustard, relish, diced onions, sauerkraut, chili, shredded cheese, jalapeños, or pickles.

Step 6: Serve

Serve immediately while hot with French fries, potato chips, coleslaw, baked beans, macaroni salad, or fresh fruit.

Recipe Tips

  • Don’t overcrowd the air fryer basket.
  • Adjust cooking time depending on the thickness of your hot dogs.
  • Score the hot dogs with shallow diagonal cuts before cooking for extra crispy edges.
  • Add cheese during the last minute for delicious melted toppings.
  • Use brioche buns for an extra soft and buttery texture.

Variations

  • Chili Cheese Hot Dogs: Top with warm chili and shredded cheddar cheese.
  • Chicago-Style Hot Dogs: Add mustard, onions, pickle spear, tomatoes, relish, peppers, and celery salt.
  • Bacon-Wrapped Hot Dogs: Wrap each hot dog with bacon before air frying.
  • Spicy Hot Dogs: Add jalapeños, pepper jack cheese, and spicy mustard.
  • BBQ Hot Dogs: Top with barbecue sauce, crispy onions, and cheddar cheese.

Storage

Store leftover cooked hot dogs in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

Reheating

Reheat in the air fryer at 350°F (175°C) for 2–3 minutes until heated through.
